Oscar Cueto setzt sich mit Problemen der Geschichtlichkeit, philosophischen Fragestellungen, Erkenntnis, Gedächtnis und Identität auseinander. Die Umsetzung erfolgt flexibel in verschiedensten Techniken, die von Zeichnung bis Video-Installation reichen.
Er hatte Einzelausstellungen in Mexiko-Stadt, Los Angeles, New York, Spanien und Wien. Seine Arbeiten sind in zahlreichen öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen; unter anderem im Jumex in Mexiko-Stadt und im Museum of Latin American Art in Los Angeles, vertreten.
Vor 3 Jahren führte ihn sein Weg zum ersten Mal nach Österreich wo er im Künstlerhaus in Salzburg an einem Artist-in –Residence –Programm teilnahm.

"I often work with drawings, objects and videos to elaborate exercises of writing history and to reflect about the notion of subject. By extolling the figures of knowledge – such as philosophers or writers – and the myths about events in their lives, I‘m exploring the mechanisms of identity and how it is constructed. Topics like history, subject, ethics, knowledge are often addressed as stories or narratives where fiction seeks to fill the gaps left by reality."
